Air Cooling Die Face Hot Cutting Pelletizing Line

Die Face Cutting with Air Cooling and No Direct Water Contact

The air cooling die face hot cutting pelletizing line is used for materials that need die face hot cutting but should avoid direct water contact during pelletizing. It is especially suitable for selected moisture-sensitive, water-sensitive, high-filler, PVC, HFFR, WPC, LLDPE, and degradable compound applications.

In this system, the material is cut directly at the die face and then cooled and conveyed by air. Since the pellets do not enter a water ring or water bath during pelletizing, the process helps reduce moisture-related issues and supports stable handling for suitable formulations.

Depending on material properties and production requirements, the system can be designed with ring-type or centrifugal-type air cooling arrangements. For selected processes, it can also be supplied as an optional design matched with tandem compounding systems when the application requires it.

How the System Works

After compounding inside the extruder, the polymer melt exits through the hot cutting die. Rotating knives cut the material directly at the die face.

The freshly cut pellets are immediately carried by high-speed air through the cooling and conveying system. During this stage, the pellets are cooled without direct water contact. The air stream then transfers the pellets to cyclones, classification equipment, and the product collection system.

This process is suitable for formulations where air cooling is preferred over water cooling because of moisture sensitivity, filler content, or material behavior.

Main Components

The air cooling die face hot cutting pelletizing line typically includes:

  • Hot cutting die
  • Die face cutting system
  • Air cooling pelletizer
  • High-pressure fans
  • Air cooling conveying pipes
  • Cyclones
  • Vibrating classifier
  • Product silo or collection system

Suitable Materials and Applications

This system is commonly used for:

  • Filling modification: PE / EVA + CaCO3, talc, TiO2, carbon black
  • Degradable masterbatch: PE / PS + starch, additives, etc.
  • Flame-retardant masterbatches: PE / EVA + Sb2O3, Mg(OH)2, Al2(OH)3, etc.
  • PVC compounds
  • LLDPE compounds
  • HFFR compounds
  • WPC compounds
  • High-filler masterbatches
  • Selected moisture-sensitive or water-sensitive formulations
  • Selected tandem compounding processes requiring air cooling die face cutting

Key Advantages

  • No direct water contact during pelletizing
  • Suitable for selected moisture-sensitive compounds
  • Stable die face hot cutting process
  • Air cooling, conveying, classification, and collection in one system
  • Available with ring-type or centrifugal-type air cooling arrangements
  • Can be matched with tandem compounding systems for specific processes
  • Practical for PVC, HFFR, WPC, high-filler, and degradable compounds

Suitable for Specialized Compounding Requirements

The air cooling die face system is a strong option for compounds that require hot cutting while avoiding direct water contact. Depending on the material and process conditions, the line can be arranged with ring-type or centrifugal-type air cooling, with conveying and classification equipment designed around the expected output and pellet handling requirements.
